Vier Werke von Couperin bearbeitet von Sven Lundestad für Gitarre solo
The French composer François Couperin (1668-1733) wrote 27 ordres (suites) for the harpsichord, which was his instrument. He was one of the favourite composers of the Sun King, Louis XIV of France. Many of the harpsichord pieces lend themselves well to transcription for guitar. I have selected four pieces of diverse nature for this book. They may be played individually or together as a small “suite.”A prominent technical element is the ornamentations, which are also very typical of French music from this epoch. To a great degree I have chosen to execute trills on two strings so that the guitar approximates the sonorous clarity of the harpsichord.I would characterize Couperin’s music as poetic, elegant, and beautiful, and I hope these four pieces can be an inspiration to play and investigate further into this composer and his works.
