für Cello und Klavier - for Cello & Piano
Almost every year since 2002 I have had the pleasure of accompanying my wife’s cello pupils at their Christmas and summer end-of-term concerts. Listening to these young players and observing their progress inspired me to compose these short cello pieces. The underlying purpose here is pedagogic but I hope too that as aspiring cellists tackle the challenges (please note, not difficulties) – time signature changes, slightly unexpected dissonances, precise intonation and rhythm – they still find their imaginations stimulated by the character of the pieces.
I have taken advice about how to set out the cello part to avoided unnecessary awkwardness. The second, third and fourth pieces started out as songs for children’s choir but did not find a place in the collection Til ditt hus med glede (To Thy House with Joy) which is also published by Cantando, C3760.
