This record collects various symphonic and coral-symphonic pages of Pietro Mascagni revisited trough the immense sonic palette of Vegezzi Bossi’s 1884 organ. Starting from the fundamental debut composition, “Cavalleria Rusticana, this collection draws from the first decade of Mascagni’s works ten other masterpieces, compositions showing his extremely eclectic style. Mascagni understood was impossible to repeat the ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’ and straight from his second work (the L’amico Fritz) he turned to completely different subjects finding for each one the appropriate music. Following the examples of Bizet and Massenet, Mascagni often inserts in context purely symphonic pieces all designed to achieve autonomous fame as Rossini’s symphonies. In the following selection the listener will surely notice how well the romantic Italian organ suits Mascagni’s orchestra and in ‘Cavalleria’, ‘Silvano’, ‘Iris’ even the solo and choirs participations.

At this point the question of what kind of relations Mascagni had with organs comes natural. They were surely less intense than the ones Puccini and Verdi had but we know about a check happened during Cerignola’s years and many years later of a concert in Pisa’s ‘Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri’ church.
